Strawberries Make Kids Dance
| Strawberries Make Kids Dance |
If anyone said strawberries don't give you energy, guess again. This past Saturday, Bekah and I took the kids to the Strawberry Festival at Barrie Hill Farms (barriehillfarms.com). We had been planning it since last weekend when we were there buying rhubarb and berries, and noticed the sign about the upcoming festival. It was raining in the morning, and at first we were a little discouraged, but decided to pack up the umbrellas and head on out. We stopped at a thrift shop on the way to give the kids an "indoor yard sale", and were pleased that the rain stopped while we were there. By the time we arrived at the farm, it was wet, but not raining. And because there was hay laid in the fields, picking was not at all uncomfortable. And sad for the farm (truly, I felt bad) was that we were one of only a couple dozen families at the event due to the morning's weather, but nice for us as there were no lineups, no waiting, and it was easy to keep the kids happy. There was a Celtic duo playing for the entire time we were there (if anyone knows who they were, please tweet me), and the kids decided it would be a fun way to wear off some of their energy from the berries they had eaten.
Our little dancers :) I hope the event was still a success for the farm, even in spite of the low turnout and rain. It was a really nice, family-centered festival, and we'll definitely go again. Looking forward to the upcoming raspberry harvest, too.
